Maple Ridge Golf Club Men’s Golf Association (MGA)
The Maple Ridge MGA is a great group of dedicated golfers who gather twice a month
for tournament activity and social interaction. A year-long race for the “Maple
Cup” matches MGA members, flighted by handicaps and chosen tees, in standings based
on points earned each month.
It costs only $25 to join for the year, plus $25 entry fee for each monthly tournament.
Cart fee and an optional $5 “skins” game are additional. Most of this money is returned
in prize money. Some is used for an annual “Legacy Gift” to the Club (such as past
gifts of flat-screen TV’s and ceiling fans for the grill, ball-washers and benches
for the par 3’s). A substantial gift is made at year’s end to the First Tee of Columbus
to support youth golf.
The MGA works like this: each tournament, 1st place winners in each flight earn
100 points, 2nd place earns 90 points, down to 10 points for 10th place. At the
end of each three-month session, prize money will be distributed to the top four
cumulative point winners as follows: 1st – 40%, 2nd – 30%, 3rd – 20%, 4th – 10%.
At the end of the third session, totals from all nine points events are tallied.
Payouts range from 18% of the Maple Cup prize fund for 1st place all the way down
to 5% for 10th place. The Player of the Year also receives the Maple Cup trophy
and a reserved parking space for a year.
MGA officers for 2008 are: Neill Fuller, President; Brian Williams, Vice President
and Event Chairman; Jason Stansell, Secretary; Jim Railey, Treasurer.
Past presidents include Marty Reyna, Larry Jay, Gregg Osborn, Wes Vaughn, Horace
Hughes, John Freeman and Ray Wagner.
The MGA has about 140 members for 2008, and encourages all male members 21 or older
to join in the fun … even in mid-season! Thursday evening activities generally start
at 6:00 p.m., and Saturday events always start at 8:30 a.m. (weather permitting).
Signup sheets are posted at the club.
