"Potential Member Day #6" brought into our roster Matt Hayes and Larry Pickren (pictured, L-R) after flight winner Bruce Cleveland claimed MGA 2nd session honors, as part of a busy Saturday, August 21 at Maple Ridge.
Earlier that day, seven Men's Golf Association flights were decided among 66 participating tournament golfers, with Cleveland's win catapulting him to 290 points for the June-July-August events (good for $120) and 400 points overall (tied for 6th). Complete results are listed at the end of this story.
Hayes, 23 and a Tennessean, is a U.S. Army non-commissioned officer just back from deployment in Iraq. He's been planning to join Maple Ridge for almost two years. Pickren is currently a substitue teacher for the Muscogee County School District and was delighted to get back into golf after several years away from the game. Several other "PMD" golfers were in the military and are considering joining pending notification of their next assignment, or decision to rejoin civilian life. Other golfers playing Saturday were Nino Hinojosa and Levi Vetter (friends of recent new member Adam Breeding) and Kris Loomis (friend of Matt Hayes).
The seventh and final "Potential Member Day" of 2010 will be Saturday, September 18, one of a series of seven monthly promotional efforts to offer groups of public golfers a chance to try out Maple Ridge for a day. For just $35, the first 12 golfers to reserve a spot receive lunch, 18 holes with cart, two drinks after the round and the chance to join Maple Ridge for huge group discounts on their initiation fees, based on how many sign up by the following Monday evening ... and if they do, the $35 is credited towards their group-rate-discounted initiation fee. That makes the entire "PMD" free! ... See complete details (below) after MGA tournament summary.
Brian Williams won the MGA Black Tee flight with a +4 vs. his dogfight points quota (format: bogey = 1 point, par = 2, birdie = 4, eagle = 8, double bogey and up = 0). Williams edged Sam Robinson (+2), with Larry Jay, Jason Burdette and Donnie Russell each third (even).
In White Tee Flight #1, Greg Stone took the 100 points and $100 for first at +7, followed by Mick Longstreet (even). Bruce Bright and Al Markham tied for third place at -1. Second place pays $75 and 90 points, third place $50 and 80 points.
Andrew Ginther won White Tee Flight #2 at +3, with Greg Heinrich next at +2. Greg Fann and Jim Daily shared third place (even).
Bruce Cleveland easily won White Tee Flight #3 at +6. Trey Watley was second (even), while Torrey Wiley and Ryland Harrelson tied for third place, each at -1.
In Gold Tee Flight #1, Steve Wiley (+4) beat out Coy Jones (+1), with Fred Wadsworth and Joel Sutton tying for 3rd at even points.
Lee Henderson captured Gold Flight #2 with a +3 total, followed by Dave Flo and Frank Sharp both at +2 to split second and third places.
Finally, Ray Wagner (+6) won Gold Tee Flight #3 over Dave Reiss (+4). A three-way tie for third included Bob Tant, Frank Casey and Earl Brown (each +3).

All MGA events are sponsored by Brent Burns Re/Max Prime Realty.
