The Maple Ridge Messenger 8-15-08
8/15/2008 12:00:00 AMLET'S TALK TURF!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Summer is coming to an end. School is back in session and the days are getting shorter, before we know it we will be putting on over-seeded greens. However, we still have eight more weeks of dependable growing weather. Therefore, our short-term goal for the maintenance department is to finish the renovation of #10 bunker so the sod will knit before late fall.
Once we complete that project we will be replacing the sand in #8, #11 and #16 bunkers that have loose or soft sand with our new smaller particle size sand, which compacts better and sets up more firmly. This will be the same sand that was used in our most recent bunker renovations at #1, #2 and #18. After that is accomplished we will be renovating the bunkers on holes #3, #4, and #7, so we can continue to make Maple Ridge the best it can be!
SIGN UP FOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As we finish a big city championship weekend, we look forward to the next big tournament: Club Championship Weekend, September 6th and 7th with a Friday evening social. Things are being done a little differently this year. In order to increase the atmosphere involving the championship, we are combining four championships in one: the Governor's Cup, the Men's Championship, the Men's Senior Championship (age 50-59), and the Super Senior Championship (age 60+).
Instead of being spread out over two months and multiple weekends, we'll have one big weekend event. Junior Club Champion winner Jonathan Klotz will also being playing in the tournament. Entry fee is $100 plus cart fees, which includes breakfast and lunch both days. The format is individual stroke play, flighted by handicap. Sign up is at the podium in the pro shop.

We are now at 102 members brought in through the Plus Four membership drive. If you know a golfer who wants to join, the next two weeks is a pretty attractive time! We have nine perks to choose from (ranging from a 3-lesson package with Mike or Gene, $100 Grille credit, one free month's dues or one free month's cart fees), each worth $100 or more. When you sign up to your respective age group, you choose up to four perks, and can start golfing that afternoon.
Just before we released this edition of the Maple Ridge Messenger, "Highlight Bob" Hagadorn aced #13 from the gold tees for his third lifetime hole-in-one, the others coming here at #2 and #9. Two weeks ago, we reported, Bob, 80, shot his age.
