CHANGING OF THE GUARD
I will be retiring at the end of August and turning the reins over to Shawn Robinson at that time. Shawn has worked in the food service industry for over twenty-five years in various roles including Chef and Management. He also has prior golf course experience having worked at Delaware National Country Club for five years. Please make him welcome and share your thoughts with him about menu selections and food and beverage service in general.
I want to thank everyone for the past seven plus years at Maple Ridge. It has been my pleasure to serve the Dinner Club, LGA, MGA, and the membership in general, especially during the change from semi-private to a private club. It will be a special month in August to be serving you for the last time. I feel that I am leaving you in capable hands in both the kitchen and the dining room and wish you all the best in the future.
As always, we welcome your input to help us better serve you! Thanks for your support!!!
Dick Esterson, Food & Beverage Director
EXCITING TIMES AT MAPLE RIDGE
Success breeds success and the hard work of our Maple Ridge Staff is paying dividends in the play of our Juniors, the summer youth clinics, the special needs clinics being hosted by Greg Heinrich and numerous Club volunteers, LGA and MGA activities, weekday dogfights, outings, increased membership, great course conditions, Dinner Club functions, and golf community outreach in the rebirth of the Bi-City Championship in the form of the Chattahoochee Valley Amateur. I want to thank our staff who is in the midst of working the long hot hours of summer to strive to make your Club the best it can be. We hope you share our pride in what is happening at YOUR CLUB and THANK YOU for your help and participation.
I want to especially thank Dick Esterson for the job he has done in the Food & Beverage area of the Club. For those who really don't know Dick, he may have seemed like a grumpy old man, but if you really got to know him...he is anything but. The success of grouper Fridays, the Dinner Club, and special catering events have been highlights of his tenure. We will miss you, but wish you all the best in your retirement.
Thanks to all of our members for your help and support!
Tom Kubik, General Manager
AERATION BEATS INFLATION!
Tuesday is aeration day again - yea! I know the maintenance crew is looking forward to it as much as you are. Not to worry, this one should be almost painless as we will be using one-quarter-inch tynes. The healing process will be greatly accelerated compared to the last aeration. This is the last cultural procedure on the greens until we overseed, so please bear with us. Thank you.
Greg Heinrich, Golf Course Superintendent
YOUTH WILL BE SERVED!
The Junior Club Championship finished moments ago and results are in for our 36 hole, two-day event (July 31 and August 1). There are 17 players, 16 boys and one girl. Here are the top finishers (Age 16 and over): Jonathan Klotz (70-74-144), Stephen Woodhill (77-71-148) and Kevin Meadows (76-75-151); (Age 15 and under): Jimmy Back (75-70-145), John Howard (75-73-148), Cates Culpepper (80-72-152), Travis Oestmann (77-82-159) and Bryant Matthews (78-81-159).
As winner of the Junior Championship, Jonathan Klotz will play in the adult Club Championship weekend September 5, 6, and 7th.
PGA McGladrey Team Championship results from July 26 (Three-Man Best Ball). Fifteen teams played, one team per nine entries advances to the state championship September 29th at Berkeley Hills CC in Duluth, GA., so we just have one qualifier. The winner of State moves on to Nationals held in Pinehurst, NC. Our top 3 teams were:
#1 - Terry Register, Donnie Russell III and Michael Ray with 56 (16 under par).
#2 - John Wells, Brent Paul, and Cates Culpepper with 59 (13 under).
#3 - Greg Heinrich, Mike Henley, and Wayne Martin with 60 (12 under).

LAUREN'S LAY-UP
First of all, yes, that is a short joke. Secondly, you will be seeing a lot more of me! I will be working as Maple Ridge's marketing assistant, with my intentions focused on highlighting more member achievements and promoting club events. I will be conducting interviews for our online 'Member Spotlight' as well as holes-in-one, updating website content regularly, and taking pictures with the trusty pink digital camera.
Feel free to come to me with suggestions for the website. I look forward to this opportunity to better serve you (something other than lunch)!
This just in! Bob Hagadorn shot his age August 1! He's shot an 80 before, only now he chuckles at the significance. "I'm not playing any better, just getting older." Why does he play at Maple Ridge? "Habit, I guess. I've been playing here since they started digging holes in the ground." His wife Mildred played the course with him. Charter member Eric Dougherty is his regular playing partner.
Lauren Aeillo, Marketing Assistant
IT ONLY GETS BETTER AT THE RIDGE
We are certainly glad to have Lauren joining us part-time in sales and marketing! We've brought 1n 115 new members so far in 2008 and several new company outings, as well as adding tournament sponsorship revenue to our duties in this busy department!
Time to recognize and welcome our latest group of new members from late July. They include Full Members Ed Riley, Brent Hines and Don and Keri Riddick; Junior Members Tiana Thomas, husband Tony Montgomery, Jay Henry Skipper; Student Members Evan Szczepanski (pronounced Shuh-pan-ski) and Kyle Wilson; and Weekday Member Gary LaMora. I strongly encourage all Maple Ridge's competitive golfing members to sign up to play in the upcoming 1st Annual Chattahoochee Valley Amateur, Presented by Bill Heard Cadillac-Saab and Leisure Lifestyles. We host Round 1 on Sat. Aug. 16, while Ft. Benning Golf Course hosts Sunday's Round 2. Lunch both days (August 16-17) and a couple of very nice tee gifts come with the $130 entry fee, We're working on a Saturday evening social for the players, too. Trust me, this will be one classy event not to miss!
The legendary Key brothers, Billy and Jack Jr., will be here as honorary starters for Round 1 on the afternoon of Saturday, August 16th. The projected field of 120 golfers is nearly one-third field, but we've got room for you! Entry forms are available at all area private golfs clubs and public courses, or print yours out at www.golfmapleridge.com.
