The Maple Ridge Messenger 7-1-08
7/1/2008 10:44:50 AMAUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATOR UPDATE We have received over $1,300 in memorial gifts earmarked for an AED in honor of J.C. Jones. An order has been placed for a Zoll AED Plus unit this past week and should deliver to the Club by July 4. Our plans are to keep one unit in the clubhouse and keep the other on the starter ranger cart to minimize response time should an emergency arise. If an emergency should arise with your playing group, call 911 first and then call the pro shop so that we can dispatch help with the AED. They are remarkable machines and prompt the user on the necessary steps to take to administer a shock or perform CPR.
We want to thank Patti Jones and her family for allowing us to remember J.C. in such a caring manner. J.C.'s son-in-law, Stan McQuiston was also instrumental in pointing us in the right direction to make the purchase. Our thanks and Prayers are with you.
Special thanks also go out to Maple Ridge Member, Lt. Scott Lunato who has already held one training session with the staff and has agreed to do future additional sessions in AED use and CPR training for staff and members as well. Please give him a pat on the back for volunteering to help us all. We truly have great members...
Thanks for your help and support!
Tom Kubik, Gen. Mgr.
LET'S TALK TURF So far, so good! This year I have been hearing how well the course looks and plays. Most recently after the greens were aerified we still managed to get positive feedback on the condition of the golf course. The reason for this is our dedicated and experienced golf course maintenance crew. Our full time crew members are: Greg Heinrich, Superintendent (11 years); Steve Menke, Assistant Superintendent, (7 years); Ray George, Spray Technician, (15 years); Ben Thomas, Shop Manager, (8 years); Noe Garcia, Irrigation Technician, (8 years); Sergio Gonzalez, Equipment Operator, (7 years); Manuel Manriquez, Equipment Operator, (6 years); Sammy Hardwick, Bunker Technician (2 years). Seasonal crew members; Charlie McLochlin, (3 years); Holt Redding, (2 years); Abel Wilson, (2 years); Paul Anderson, (rookie); Drew Allen (rookie), Matt Fober (rookie). Next time you see these employees you can thank them for making Maple Ridge the best it can be!

NEW GOLF CARTS & MOREOur new Club Car golf carts arrived the last week of June. The carts are the same with a few different features. You will notice the sand buckets are different and the coolers are different. These two accessories are more user-friendly. However I ask you, to not take our coolers home.

It's about you being involved.
Go to golfmapleridge.com for a list of all monthly events.
Please take care of the golf course.
Helpful Information:
- Placing sand in a newly made divot will allow the divot to grow back at the same level as the rest of the course and promotes faster recovery time.
- A ball mark fixed recovers in 24 hours, not fixed takes 30 days.
- Avoid riding over worn areas with the golf carts. After all it's the cart that created the area. Example-It's hard to figure out why there's an area worn out to the right side of #1's Gold & Red Tee box?
- Control your anger, if you miss a putt don't take a divot out of the green.
It's a group effort. We all want the best conditions possible, and everyone has a part to play.Mike Gill, Director of Golf
EXCITEMENT ON TWO FRONTSWe're very close to announcing details of a revived Individual Men's City Championship similar to the Bi-City Amateur that was a local staple for decades. Maple Ridge will co-host the event with another area course on an August weekend. We thank Bill Heard Cadillac-Saab for purchasing a title sponsorship.
Our second "Potential Member Day" looms this Saturday at noon, and there are still about a dozen spots available. Non-member golfers must make advance reservations (call me ASAP at 706-569-0966).
