TURF TALKIN'

It's mid-April and we're off to a great start! The Tifton Bermuda-grass fairways have started to fill in nicely and we still are receiving adequate rainfall to this point. Soon you will be noticing a transition in our greens and tees as well, from the winter over-seeded grass to Dwarf Bermuda-grass. This will be most noticeable at the end of April through mid May. Once the chemical is applied on April 21st to hasten this transition, the greens and tees will turn off color and then become somewhat thin. However, after the fertilizer and topdressing is applied in the last days of April you will notice the greens and tees becoming full again by mid May.

We hope you will also notice some of our recent and ongoing projects as well. Retaining wall renovations at holes #5 & 6. Storm water drainage retention at #10 tee. Rest shelter "sprucing up" at holes #5 & #11. Tree removal and sod installation between #1 tee & #18 green. And soon to be completed #1 sand bunker. And there's always more to come so we can continue to make Maple Ridge the best it can be!

CHERYL'S (Dare we say?) SHANKS

Hello Golfers! Well, Masters is over, but the golf buzz has not slowed down at Maple Ridge Golf Club. I would like to personally welcome several new "groups" of members. Corey Sheen, Mike Bingham, Rob Cavis, Scot Yarbrough and Ken Thomas make up the TSYS Employee Group. Rob Edwards, Gene Smith, Chuck Vaughn, Greg Ballard and Cole Phillips make up the second group of new members.

Let's also welcome David Brookins and Stan Durham representing new corporate member Brookins Grading and Landscaping.

Most of these new members took advantage of our "Employee / Group Rate Membership". When one or more golfers joins as a group at the same time, the initiation fee is reduced as follows:

1 employee: $1,000         3 employees: $500 each     5 employees: $300 each
2 employees: $750 each  4 employees: $400 each     6+ employees: $250 each

As you can see, this is a great way to save money, and join Maple Ridge Golf Club with your favorite golf partner, or foursome. To find out how you can join Maple Ridge Golf club with your favorite golf partners, go to www.golfmapleridge.com and click on "Membership".

Happy Golfing!

GRILLIN' AND CHILLIN'

APRIL Draft II ...

The early ballots are in and the consensus seems to be to stay with the $1 draft and change to Coors instead of Coors Light. We will use up our existing inventory of Coors Light and then make the change.

We will be working with our vendors and do some sampling of micro brews at this month's MGA Meeting. We will then decide if we want to put in a permanent selection or rotate a draft brew of the month. Thanks again for your feedback with regards to food and beverage offerings here at your Club. We value your opinion and your ideas continue to prompt changes in our offerings.

Thanks for your support!!!

B.A.S.H. IS ALWAYS A SMASH

Sign up soon, if you haven't already, for one of the most unique tournament formats you'll ever play --- the B.A.S.H. on Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27!

Two-person teams compete in 9-hole segments in Best Ball, Alternate Shot, Scramble and High Score. The last component alone can shake up a leaderboard like few other formats, as both partners strive to avoid a big number on each hole.

Member-Member or Member-Guest teams are welcome in both a Men's and Ladies Division. All players are required to have a USGA Handicap Index, and their maximum difference in handicaps is 8 strokes.

There'll be a 2:00 p.m. shotgun start on Saturday, followed by a cookout for all contestants and their spouses. Sunday morning tee times will be scheduled by flight.

The cost is $55 plus cart for Members and $75 plus cart for Guests.

WHAT A WEBSITE!

Have you had a chance to visit www.golfmapleridge.com lately? We're starting to incorporate new features, one by one. On the home page, you can now read about Maple Ridge member golf feats - currently headlining recent holes-in-one by Dave Reiss, Allen Wright and Michael Ray. We'll soon resume our member spotlight, but couldn't resist our trio of aces in late March!

Also online, you can now post your scores (right-hand side of home page), click on "Current Events" for upcoming Club activity details, get tournament results, view hole-by-hole course photos and descriptions and see our up-to-the-minute Grille menu offerings. In the near future, you'll be able to view equipment and apparel currently on sale at the Pro Shop, look at photo galleries from prior tournaments, and learn how to book instruction from our PGA pros Gene Matthews and Mike Gill.

All the Maple Ridge staff is working with web host TracSoft's Reggie Luther and Ben Godina to maximize your enjoyment and convenient use of our website. It's a collaborative effort, so please tell us about any other improvements or additions you'd like to see, and we'll do our best to make them happen!

MEMBER PARTICIPATION

Thank you so much for your participation in Club events and functions. This weekend is a great example as we once again host the Junior Girls Classic. The LGA does a great job organizing in conjunction with our staff to make this one of the premier girl's high school events in the State. There are over forty volunteers who sacrifice their valuable time to make this event so successful. Thank you so much.

The strength of the Club is people...staff and members alike. The camaraderie that is developed through events, participation, and interacting is fantastic. It's what makes life tolerable. Thanks again for your participation and let us know if you have any other ideas to make Your Club more user-friendly for your enjoyment.
