SLICES BY CHERYL Happy February!
I would like to personally welcome our newest Bill Heard-Cadillac Saab promotion members, Jamie McVay, Larry Derby, Franky Cook, Mark Hanner, Michael Harrell, Jerry Gunter and Chris French. I would also like to welcome our newest “Trial Membership” member, Josh Schiffman. Again, both promotions have been very successful. The trial membership program continues through February for Columbus Ledger-Enquirer home delivery subscribers only! Call and ask me for details!
Just a hint…..It looks like we are adding another GREAT tournament to Maple Ridge’s Members tournament schedule. Bill Heard Cadillac-Saab is going to put on a tournament some time this summer between the Chatttahoochee Cup and Ridgefest. It is going to be a fun two-day tournament with lots of fun extras for you and your spouse. As we get closer to tournament time we will release more details. One thing I do know… It will be a weekend you will remember for a long time!
Happy golfing!

LET’S TALK TURF Projects Update... The renovation is complete at the #18 greenside bunker. Since this renovation work was done during the winter season it will take at least 4 to 6 months for the sod slope encompassing the bunker to stabilize. In order to avoid personal injury and prevent damage to the bunker slope we would greatly appreciate everyone’s help by using the steps to enter and exit this bunker.
Next on our long list of project is to repair the eroded headwalls at the creeks on hole no.’s 5 & 6. Work to begin repairs will occur in the next few weeks. Please use caution in these areas until work is completed.

THE LOST ART --- of golf course etiquette. Golf has grown so rapidly over the last 30 years; it’s now a game for everyone. There was a time when golf was played mainly by the affluent at an upscale private country club. Not knowing the rules or etiquette would only lead to self-embarrassment. Golfers are still very interested in the rules but the etiquette is becoming a thing of the past.
We need to create better habits. Advanced tournament players will more than likely, when walking on a green fix any ball mark they see while searching for their own. After playing a bunker shot, they will rake their prints, but also tidy up any areas near their exit path. A tour caddie will rake the sand in the direction of the hole making the next players shot potentially easier. This method only works if everyone participates.
Members’ responsibility. We need to continue teaching and creating better habits. Let the Spring warming begin !!!
Everyone needs to participate
Taking care of a golf course should not be a conscious effort. It should be ingrained Mike Gill, Director of Golf
JAKE’S JEWELS A wise man (wiser than me, anyway) once said “May you live in interesting times”. How’s this for interesting? We’ve contracted with a local website development firm, TracSoft, to revamp and host
www.golfmapleridge.com with a targeted re-launch date of March 1.
We’ve been looking for a way to make our website more user-friendly, “newsier” and visually attractive in ways the Club hasn’t tried before. In a month, you’ll be able to go online and see timely previews of upcoming Club events, features such as member profiles and accomplishments by Maple Ridge golfers, a year-long events calendar, tournament photo galleries and much, much more.
Reggie Luther, TracSoft owner and north Columbus resident, has become a member and will be on hand to consult on a weekly basis. We’re all very excited and impressed with Reggie’s enthusiasm and professionalism with sites he has created and maintains for other area companies.
Also, this Sunday -- our friend and contract photographer Greg Grice will be on hand to take shots of members enjoying our Super Bowl tournament and chili cookoff. The fruits of Greg’s talents will be seen in our upcoming billboard advertising efforts, Maple Ridge membership and golf outings literature, and on our “new” website. Members will also be able to purchase beautiful blown-up photos of our most scenic holes at very reasonable prices, as will tournament organizers for their participating golfers.
Finally, we’re putting finishing touches on our spring membership drive, tentatively called the “Phenomenal Foursome” or the “Plus Four” campaign. Would anyone like to weigh in or ask for details? We think it’ll be a winner for 2008, and a lot of fun seeing which membership “perks” people value most!
